Shingles is a painful skin rash caused by reactivation of the varicella-zoster (chickenpox) virus. It can affect anyone who has previously had chickenpox, with the risk increasing as we get older.
Our sister pharmacy, Cyncoed Pharmacy, now offers a private shingles vaccination service for eligible adults using the Shingrix vaccine. Vaccination can help reduce your risk of developing shingles and the complications associated with the infection.
Appointments for this service are held at Cyncoed Pharmacy.

Shingrix is given as a two-dose course.
The second dose is usually given 2 months after the first dose. If you have a weakened immune system, our pharmacist may recommend having your second dose within 1–2 months instead.
The private shingles vaccination service costs £220 per dose.
Two doses are required to complete the vaccination course, with payment taken at the time of booking each individual dose appointment.
Shingles can cause a painful, blistering rash and in some people, can lead to longer-lasting nerve pain and other complications.
The risk of developing shingles increases with age, which is why vaccination is particularly important for adults aged 50 and over and those at increased risk.
If you’re eligible for vaccination, protecting yourself now could help reduce your risk of developing shingles in the future.
Appointments for this service are held at Cyncoed Pharmacy.
Full payment of £220 is required for the Shingles vaccination to secure an appointment.
